2007 |
|
- The "Pesticide Committee" (forerunner of the GCAC) established several areas of the campus to be exempt from the campus-wide herbicide spraying.
|
|
|
- David Putnam directed landscaping of the slope adjacent to the concrete steps between South Hall and the President's house. Large angular granite boulders were added and a rock wall constructed.
|
|
|
- A suggestion was made to purchase quality bulk compost for the campus lawns and gardens. A problem was encountered with transportation.
|
|
|
- A meeting was held with a representative of Modern Pest Services to learn about their procedures and their newer alternatives.
|
|
|
- Alice Sheppard and Allen Salo worked with King's Gardener to enrich soil in the Centennial Garden with sheep manure and humus. Mulch was spread on top to reduce soil erosion and combat weed problems.
|
|
|
- Several dozen daylilies and wildflowers were planted on the slope-side of the South Hall parking lot.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
- Master Gardeners Alice Sheppard and Karen Colburn submitted a proposal to the University of Maine Cooperative Extension to design an educational planting of native ferns and wildflowers at the edge of the Central Campus Park.

2008 |
|
- A library exhibit on Gardening with Nature was proposed by Master Gardeners Alice Sheppard and Karen Colburn with UMPI librarian Tammera Race.
|
|
|
- Plans were made to launch a Website and a Bulletin for the Green Campus Action Committee. Lynn Eldershaw will edit the Bulletin and Alice Sheppard will coordinate the Website.
|
|
|
|
|
|
- The Upward Bound Program was held on campus for 6 weeks beginning June 30th. The Community Service class selected their major project as beautifying the Gentile Hall Landscape
