Groups
In addition to the groups that are clearly identified under a
specific category, there have been a number of other groups that
have been established at this school that do not fit under a
specific category, with other related groups of its kind.
Following is a list of groups that have existed on this campus
that do not fall under a specific category.
- The Home Economics Club - The Home
Economics Club was organized by the senior class (under
the direction of Miss Pullen) in January of 1928. The
Home Economics Club was organized in order to encourage
greater sociability among the students.
- The Art Club - The Art Club was
established in 1929 with "the purpose of arousing
interest in, and promoting the welfare of, the work
carried on" at Aroostook State Normal School, (Salmagundi,
1929). After a long period of nonexistence for the Art
Club, it was re-established in 1963 as a group with a
focus on increasing the knowledge of art.
- The Camera Club - The Camera Club was
organized in 1941. The focus of the Camera Club was for
students to learn about cameras and about how to take
good photographs. Time was spent on the instruction and
practice of properly operating a camera.
- Student Council - The Student Council
began in the Spring of 1940, with the purpose of being a
governing body. Over time, it evolved into what is
currently called the Student Senate.
- Future Teachers of America (FTA) - The
FTA began in 1949, with emphasis being placed on
educational and teacher-related issues. A similar group
emerged in 1958 when the Student Education
Association of Maine (SEAM) was established.
After a period of SEAM being discontinued, it recently
re-emerged and is trying to build as an established
organization on campus.
- The American Society of Personnel Administrators
- The American Society of Personnel Administrators was
organized in 1984.
- Business and Accounting Club - The
Business and Accounting Club was established in 1991,
with a focus on Business and Accounting related issues.
In 1992 this club name was shortened to the Business
Club.
- Chess Club - The Chess Club was
established in 1991, with the purpose of learning about
and playing the game of chess. Emphasis is placed on
using strategy. The Chess Club puts on chess tournaments
throughout the school year, including a human chess game
where people are the chess pieces.
- Geo-Ecology Club - The Geo-Ecology club
began in 1991. The purpose of the Geo-Ecology Club is to
learn about the environment and to attend field trips
that relate to this area of science in order to learn
through hands-on or observational experiences.
- The Criminal Justice Club - The Criminal
Justice Club was organized in 1994 with a focus on the
field of criminal justice. This club sponsors workshops
throughout the year that focus on criminal justice
issues.
