Soccer
Soccer was introduced to the Aroostook State Normal School in 1930. In that year, after learning the rules and some skills of the game, one interclass game was played. It ended in a 1-1 tie. It was not until 31 years later, in 1961 that soccer became an intercollegiate sport for the men.
That first year, the men ended with a 2-1 record on the season. With popularity for the sport growing, it was not far off that the Men's Soccer team would win its first soccer championship. That first championship came in the 1966 season, when the men won the Northeast College Conference Championship. Other winning seasons were soon to come for the talented men's soccer team. Following is a list of the championships won since soccer first became an intercollegiate sport at this school.
Northeast College Conference Championship - 1966, 1968, 1972, 1973, 1977, 1979, 1986, 1991, 1992
Since soccer continues to be a popular sport at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, it undoubtedly will be successful in years to come.
