Volleyball

Volleyball was first introduced as a sport to the Aroostook State Normal School in 1927. At first, games were only played intramurally, but with time and practice, volleyball became a popular sport and was eventually played intercollegiately. Volleyball continued as an intercollegiate sport at the Univesity of Maine at Presque Isle until 1990. Although volleyball continued to be a popular intramural sport, it unfortunately died out as an intercollegiate sport.

With renewed interest in seeing volleyball as an intercollegiate sport, the University of Maine at Presque Isle has added it to its intercollegiate athletic program for the 1998-1999 academic school year. It is hoped that the added sport will be met with enthusiasm by students in order to ensure its continuation and eventual success as an intercollegiate sport.
