Women's
Basketball
Basketball began at Aroostook State Normal School very early in the history of the school. The earliest record of girls' basketball was from the 1909 Salmagundi, where it is stated that the first basketball game was played on November 19, 1908 between the senior and freshman classes. Although basketball was not an intercollegiate at this time, it was a popular sport, and many girls tried their hand at playing. Since that introduction of basketball in 1908, it has remained a popular sport, even to this day.
The most successful seasons of girls basketball for the University of Maine at Presque Isle came in 1972 and 1973 when the women's team won the MAIAW.
