  • The formal unveiling of the Maine Solar System Model happened at 1:00 on Saturday, June 14th, 2003 at the Saturn site in Westfield. A variety of VIPs at the ceremony, including Senator Susan Collins, an astronaut, and the Director of the Planetary Society were there.
  • The Solar Model is featured in the Smithsonian Magazine's March '03 issue!
  • Saturn and Neptune are up and looking glorious! See the Saturn and Neptune pages for photos.
  • The Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto are now up.
  • Only one planet, Uranus remains. We hope to have Uranus up in the Spring. Foundation work for Uranus is complete.
  • A draft brochure has been completed and some funding has been obtained.
  • Kevin McCartney has now spoken publicly before all the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs in Aroostook County (there are twelve altogether) seeking money for this project. We have received material and time donations from many many people, businesses and organizations.
  • Kevin has made presentations on the model at national meetings of the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America.
  • The Maine Solar System Model has now received national publicity from Air & Space magazine and National Public Radio.
  • The Solar Model is mentioned in the April 12 issue of Science and the just-published AAA New England Journey.
