6000 Million Years of Earth History

Earth History

The overhead exhibit above the third floor display cases illustrates 600 million years of Earth history, extending from 540 million years ago to 50 million years into the future. During this time, many continents came together to form the super continent Pangea, which then broke up to produce the continents we have today.

The exhibit consists of seven panels that show the arrangement of continents at different points in geological time. Between adjacent panels are illustrations of typical vertebrate and invertebrate organisms that lived in the time spanned by the panels. The organisms between the last two panels are simply illustrated by a question mark, since these will occur in the future.
