Library Dedication
Prior to the completion of the current library, the library was located in Preble Hall. The school's very first librarian was Miss Ardelle M. Tozier, and as a result of her efforts, the original library was named after her; however, when this library was built, it was not dedicated in her honor. With the addition of buildings on campus, the library was able to expand, so before long new space was needed to house the material that occupied the library.
This photo shows a part of the old library when it was located in Preble Hall. This library was named the Ardelle M. Tozier Library, after the first librarian of the school, Miss Ardelle M. Tozier.
The current Library on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus was completed in 1975 and was dedicated on September 20, 1975. Although the library bears no name, the plaque from the Ardelle M. Tozier Library can be found in the Special Collections room.
On the bottom floor of the library are old periodicals, a computer lab, and the Special Collections Room. The Special Collections Room contains collections of books about Maine and about Aroostook County. In addition, the University Archives are located in the Special Collections Room.
The Main Floor of the Library contains current periodicals, reference materials, newspapers, micoroform, a conference room, and the circulation desk.
Upstairs is where the books are shelved. In addition, there is a small room for children's books. The upstairs also has plenty of space for students to study.
